Treasure of the Holy Sepulchre exhibition at Palace of Versailles Model of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem

Exceptional treasure:

Comprising objects as symbolic as Godefroy de Bouillon's sword and stirrups, the Treasury of the Holy Sepulchre is composed of extraordinary works of art enhancing the splendour of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre.
Revered throughout history by believers and pilgrims, these presents are of a great diversity. The most noteworthy of them were presented by major European sovereigns. The Bourbons carried on this tradition with Louis XIV dispatching some sumptuous pieces made with precious metals.
In 1686, the Most Serene Republic of Genoa offered one of the most extraordinary ornaments ever made, embroidered with polychrome silk thread. But Spain sent the ultimate splendour composed of solid gold pieces considered unique in the world.
Come and discover these treasures featuring beautiful gold and silver pieces.

Curators: Bernard Degout and Jean Charles-Gaffiot.
