French soldier uniform in 1914 The First World War is preserved forever at the Museum of the Great War, right beside the American Monument in the Meaux area.
The museum of the Great War houses an important collection of objects, arms, posters, costumes, archives, photographs and drawings which date from the First World War. This collection of 50,000 objects and documents belonged to Jean-Pierre Vernet, a specialist on the First World War.
The museum has a surface area of 7,000 m² (75,000 ft²), and offers permanent exhibition spaces, temporary exhibitions, a documentation centre, eductional rooms, an auditorium, a café and a shop. The building also boasts a roof-terrace, which offers a superb 360° view.
